Bungoma County has assigned assistant chiefs to educate residents about the importance of hygiene to prevent Covid-19 disease.
Assistant chiefs will walk door to door to sensitize residents and give them the best directive measures on how to practice hygiene, washing hands and other precautions.
Bungoma county commissioner Dr.Abdi Hassan said that assistant chiefs are grass root leaders and they are in contact with them hence they will direct them to be cautious about their lives.
“Chief and their assistant play a critical role in helping the government, hence I have directed them to walk house to house to sensitize residents to take care of their hygiene including frequent hand washing exercise to stop contracting coronavirus,” he said.
He added ‘’Covid-19 disease is all about hygiene and I call upon Bungoma residents to embrace it and make sure that they are not infected with this pandemic,”.
Dr.Hassan said that they had tightened the security at its borders to make sure that there is no intrusion of foreigners from other neighboring countries with fear of spreading the deadly covid-19 disease.
The County has not yet reported any coronavirus deaths or infections up to now.
Addressing the press after holding the County Security committee Dr. Hassan assured area residents that the security at the border is tight to make sure that there is no random movement of people to and from the county.
‘’The main challenge is that many people are not washing hands every time as per the precautions given by health officers,” he lamented.
He accused those people carrying out illegal meetings saying that this will encourage the transmission of the disease.
‘’According to the directive given by the health department and the security team when found carrying out any illegal meeting you will be arrested,” he advised.
Dr.Hassan assured that the security at Lwakhakha border is tight whereby people are screened as they move to make sure that no single person is allowed to enter the country as this might bring more covid-19 pandemic to the country.
He added that the county has set-up another isolation rooms at Malakisi hospital as this will help in holding any reported case of the corona virus, calling upon members of the public to report any case of the covid-19 to any nearby health facility for immediate intervention.
He lauded the county government of Bungoma for partnering with the national government to make sure that they give the best directive measures to try and prevent the spread of the pandemic.
