A suspected Coronavirus positive patient who fled from Uasin Gishu county was arrested in Bungoma.
The patient was among the 26 truck drivers who tested positive in Turbo screening centre.
Bungoma county health CEC Dr.Antony Walela says that they were notified about the fleeing COVID-19 truck driver whom they managed to track down.
“We were notified by our counter parts in Uasin Gishu about the truck driver who had fled after testing positive and he was driving his truck towards Uganda in disregard of his condition, we managed to arrest him in Webuye town,” said Walela.
The truck driver of the Somali origin from Eastleigh Estate in Nairobi was then taken into an isolation centre at Webuye sub county hospital.
“We thank God for and our colleagues for alerting us on time or else this guy would have knowngly infected people with Covid-19 without their knowledge,” said Walela.
This comes just five days after another truck driver from Meru county who had been held for a month was discharged after testing negative.
His colleague from Vihiga county is still being held at the facility as testing still goes on.
“We discharged one of the two truck drivers after he tested negative of Coronavirus, we remained with one from Vihiga county but the number has increased to two again after we arrested another truck driver who had fled from Uasin Gishu county,” stated Walela.
He called on area residents to take care of themselves from Coronavirus by observing government directives.
