There is a sharp rise of Coronavirus positive patients in Bungoma county.
Bungoma county health and sanitation CEC Dr.Antony Walela says the number of patients has risen to six.
All the six Coronavirus positive patients are truck drivers plying the Northern corridor road.
Speaking in Webuye town on June 4, Dr.Walela attributed the increase of the cases due to ignoring government directives.
“By yesterday (Thursday) we received three cases, last week we had one case of a truck driver who fled from Turbo screening centre in Uasin Gishu county while we previously had two cases,” he said.
Dr. Walela added, “One person from Meru county and who turned negative was discharged from our isolation centre,”.
All the five Coronavirus positive patients are undergoing medication at Webuye sub county hospital isolation centre which has 16 bed capacity.
Walela also said that they will kick start mass testing of COVID-19 at Bukembe market, Webuye, Kanduyi, Kimwanga and Kimaeti shopping centres where truck drivers mostly park their vehicles.
He asked area residents to turn up in large numbers and be tested to ascertain whether they have contracted Covid-19 or not just to be sure of their status.
