Majority of Teso North students are forced to travel to far flung areas to seek for the training in the medical field.

A  Kenya  Medical  Training  College (KMTC) is set to be opened at Kocholya in Teso North Sub Constituency, Busia County.

Sh.42 million from the NG- CDF kitty has been allocated to kick start the construction of learning facilities on a 10 acre piece of land.
The land was bought through the same kitty and now on the fencing stage

Speaking at the proposed site, Teso North Mp Dr.Edward Oku Kaunya said that the medical training college will help in addressing problems of health services being faced by thousands of locals and scholars.

“Considering that Teso region is a marginalized area, establishment of such a crucial health institution is a great boost in addressing the wanting state of heath care services which have been affecting locals for years,” said Kaunya.

Further, the legislator called on the Busia county government to ensure proper functioning of all health facilities in the region, owing to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic which has paralyzed normal operations in the health sector.
Kaunya further urged residents to invest in construction of housing facilities in order to accommodate numerous number of students expected to join the institution, staff members and other investors who are expected to flock the area once the college is fully operational.
“This medical training facility will act as a catalyst for social and economic transformation in the area besides getting competent professionals,” Kaunya said.

“I urge residents to support the upcoming facility and own it, as it will automatically improve lives of our people. I have channelled Sh42 million  to kickstart the construction of the facility,” Kaunya assured the residents.
The proposed Campus, will be the second in Busia County and seventh in Western region, it is being set up next to the Kocholya Sub-County Hospital.
