Police in Bungoma town have nabbed five suspects in the murder of a prominent Bungoma businessman Michael Gacheche Karuga.
The five suspects are five men and one woman.
They were nabbed at a rental house in Kanduyi market in the outskirts of Bungoma town on Thursday night June 18.
Confirming the arrests, Bungoma south OCPD Wilson Nanga stated that his officers have been following up leads that led to their arrests.
The suspects robbed the deceased of Sh2 million and gunned him down near Keringet hotel in Bungoma town on June 8, 2020.
“Following the robbery incident of a prominent Bungoma businessman, our officers managed to arrest the key suspects who are being held in custody as we carry on with more investigations before they are arraigned in court,” said Nanga.
The Sub County Commander also stated that during the raid in a rental house, they managed to recover household items over Sh500,000.
“Among the recovered items included police boots, jungles, a pair of handcuffs, five TV sets, a fridge, several mobile phones, microwave, three pairs of sofasets and other household items,” said Nanga.
Nanga also said that among the suspects is one person of the Ugandan origin while the rest are Kenyans.
“They are the main suspects who have been staging robberies in pubs, houses and leading muggings in main suburbs, we have cast our nets wide and soon we will arrest their accomplices,” assured the OCPD.
Gacheche was buried on Tuesday in his home in Soi, Likuyani constituency of Kakamega county.
The deceased was the owner of Shell Patrol station and also run several other business in Bungoma town.
