“We are perturbed as the union that TSC managed to ignore Bungoma county despite our teachers attending the interviews that was conducted in every county,” said Luketelo

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) members in Bungoma county have raised concerns over failure by Teachers Service Comission to promote 136 deputy principals into principals.

The county Union’s executive secretary Augustine Luketelo decried failure by the teacher’s employer to promote county’s deputy principals to the rank of principals even after attending the interviews in December 2019.
“We are perturbed as the union that TSC managed to ignore Bungoma county despite our teachers attending the interviews that was conducted in every county,” said Luketelo

He added, “Since December 2019 when the interviews was last done, the results have never been released and to our surprise no Deputy has been promoted in Bungoma county and we want TSC to elaborate on this issue,”.
He has further cautioned TSC against discrimination and asked it to release results of the interviews before principals from other counties are deployed to Bungoma schools.
He called on TSC to promote Bungoma deputies to principals after attending the interviews.

“As a branch we will not allow importation of principals to Bungoma, before they do that, let TSC show us how many principals Bungoma will export to other counties or else we will not allow outsiders to land here,” warned Luketelo.
The Unionist stated that the branch is completely annoyed with failure by TSC to promote Bungoma deputy principals into principals yet they are over qualified having held the same leadership positions for over 10 years and above.
The unionist affirmed that secondary schools deputies in Bungoma are holders of PHDs, Masters, Degrees, and diplomas and have stayed in the same positions in the same schools for long despite being qualified to lead as principals.
“We are annoyed as a union, our teachers have the capacity to lead, why can’t they be promoted into school leadership positions, why are we being discriminated, we are real annoyed and disappointed with TSC,” said Luketelo.
The branch members further tared into CBA for cheating teachers and failure to promote and increase their yearly salaries.

“CBA is annoying, it was meant to promote teachers but so far teachers in job group L have stayed in the same job group for over 15 years without promotion, how do you expect them to deliver well?,” he posed.
Luketelo further said that CBA which was put in place to ensure promotion of teachers especially diploma holders are stuck in the same job group, especially those in job group N have never been promoted and they feel CBA was meant to hoodwink teachers and deny them promotions.
